Description
Beautiful Yamaha Soprano Saxophonemodel - YSS 62 serial # 012336 making its manufacture date somewhere about 1982 (approx.) I purchased this instrument a few years ago from a former music student who hadn't played it since college. It was absolutely MINT conditon then and has only seen a touch of wear since. The pictures included show the detail pretty well. The areas with a small bit of lacquer wear are:Octave key, side F# key, low B spatula, left hand side keys and inside bell rim (from using stand). Teeny bit of lacquer "spotting" on a couple of the right hand main keys. * All but the octave key and B spatula lac wear are hard to see without getting up pretty close. Other than the above ... No damage, dents or scratches. Pads are working pretty well but a couple may need replacing soon. The infamous G# key has been cleaned and treated many times to stop it from sticking so it looks a little iffy but it seals well, so I wouldn't mess with it. Like they say, "If it ain't broke..."Instrument plays well with a beautiful tone bottom to top.Intonation is incredible ... as with all Yamahas. I had never tried a soprano I liked before I tried Yamaha and it was the ease of playing in tune that grabbed my attention first. Even the case looks great and has no damage or apparent wear, except the logo which has worn off a bit. As the knowledgeable buyer is aware, Yamaha instruments are considered among the best made anywhere in the world since the 1980's. They have great durability to go along with great sound and ergonomics. Some musicians are actually of the opinion the instruments made by Yamaha in Japan in the 1980's are superior to many they have designed and built since. FYI, I took this horn to my tech to make sure all was well and he said it played beautifully and he had to agree with how great a horn it is ... since he has one just like it! It is a common opinion among sax players that the 1980's Yamaha sopranos are absolutely wonderful instruments, perhaps the best ever made! For the perfect intonation alone it's worth getting one of these.
