Description
Edward Baack cocus wood 1-key "D" flute with nickel-silver rings, Baack was one of the premier flute makers of the mid 1800's, but apparently a poor businessman as he was listed as a flute maker in New York between 1864- 1872 (died 1893), probably too busy making babies as he and his wife had 12 children! This flute was restored by Kara Lochridge (she apprenticed under the world reknown flute maker Patrick Olwell) in January of this year. I have had 2 flute restored by her and she did a great job on both of them. She replaced the head cork, re-padded the key,a re-wrapped the tenons, and filled and wrapped crack in the head, right and left hand sections (she wrapped them to prevent any future cracks), it hard to find them she did such a good job. Lookout for her flutes in the future. I have oiled this flute every month and broke it in the same way I would a new flute. She will never be a session flute, but she has a sweet sound. I am not a very good flautis but I agree with Kara when she says it is in tune with itself but a little high pitched ( about a half-step using my guitar tuner). But it does play D=440. Kara esimated the value at between $600- 800. Shipping includes insurance. I will accept check or money order and will ship flute when it clears.
