Made with wood blocks (fashioned like two Chinese Temple Blocks) mounted on a sturdy cross section of wood (dark brown) which was notched and glued to a bamboo slat which in turn was strapped to a wooden handle. The handle (darker brown) was formed to mount another bamboo slat (fastened with organic material)  upon which a carved figure of a bird is glued. The bird figure has a hole through which another cross section of lighter colored wood  has been inserted, with two hard wood balls glued to the ends. The balls are placed just above the knockers so that when the top piece of bamboo is pushed with the thumb, they impact the wood blocks, thus providing a stereo version of wood blocks being hit by integrated strikers. Quite impressive bit of folk art/cultural ingenuity. As an art piece, the two wood blocks are made to look like pieces of fruit, with dark colored leaves near the cross section which holds them together. Both are varnished with a high gloss sheen. Both cross bars have been carefully carved to the delicate shape providing practicality and visual appeal. The bird like object draws the eye to the center of the piece, giving it the illusion that it is flying above the branch of a tree. The handle is ergonomic yet colored darker like the two balls that strike the blocks. The multiple wood finishes give the whole piece an interesting appeal.
