Description
I'm launching a series of digital "reprints" on CD of various old musical instruments trade catalogs and other antique music related books and prints and new items similar to this are added to my eBay store all the time. And don't hesitate to ask me if you can't find what you're looking for. There are hundreds of other titles in peparation. Please note that the item in this and my other ebook auctions are reproductions, not originals. For sale here is a CD with a reproduction of an early edition of "Book of Complete Information About Pianos," published by Wing & Son, New York in 1900.PreviewsHere are a few scaled down samples from the ebook. (You can click on the images to view slightly larger versions.) Please note that the large images above are still much smaller than the ones on the CD.  You can click here for a full size scan of one of the pages if you want to see the quality available from the CD.DescriptionKey dataTitle:Book of Complete Information About Pianos (4th edition ?)Publisher:Wing & SonCountry:USAArea:New York CityDate:1900Language:EnglishCD edition:No. of scans:118Resolution:180 dpiEbook size:146.9 MBOrder code:Wing1900Physical description of the originalThe size is 31 cm height and 30.8 cm width. Dimensions are for the cover. The pages are c. 30.4x30.1 cm.The 112 numbered pages are printed on light but fairly good quality paper, mostly in black-and-white. Twelve of the pages (even pages 38-48 and odd pages 49-59) are printed with full page colour illustrations (chromolitographs?), covered with heavy, transparent laquer. The combined flyleaves and pastedowns are made from fairly ordinary heavy paper and the hardcover is covered with light bluish-gray cloth and printed in blue and gold on front only.My copy includes a four-page inlay with descriptions and black-and-white pictures of two of Wing's models. It's hard to see why they had this printed since it doesn't have any content worth mentioning not included in the catalog itself.ContentPart I of the book is more or less the same in all editions of "Book of Complete Information About Pianos" and contains the following articles:Piano historyAncient origin of the pianoThe first pianoEarly attemptsThe first uprightOverstrung uprightsComparative merits of grand, square and upright pianosAmerican pianosThe toneThe actionPiano constructionThe parts of a pianoPutting a piano togetherPart II of the book is the Wing pianos catalog. It includes:A presentation of the Wing piano and its advantages  More or less identical to other editions. The Wing piano "instrumental attachment"  More or less identical to other editions.Descriptions and images of the six models in Wing's product range at the time the edition was published.  The cheapest Style H is illustrated with the same black-and-white drawign as in the 1897 edition but the other models are represented by 12 rather spectacular full page, full colour illustrations showing different casing alternatives.Testimonials  Significantly expanded from previous editions, including facsimiles of letters with letterheads from various companies and photos of institutions using Wing pianos.Sheet music for 15 short pieces arranged or composed by William Dressler to demonstrate the tonal possibilities of Wing's "instrumental attachment."  As far as I know, this is the only edition that includes the whole set of 15 pieces. Earlier, these were published in a separate (free) booklet while later editions only includes a selection. An article about the care of the piano  Identical in all editions.Ebook conditionDue to the large format of the book, each page of the ebook had to be made from two scans joined together. On some pages the joint line between the two scans are visible in the background.FormatThe CD presents the catalog in a choice of three different formats: high resolution (180 dpi) JPEG scans for maximum quality, HTML format allowing you to leaf through the scans as if it was a paper book and PDF format for quick reference with all pages in a single document. It is readable on any reasonably modern computer with a CD drive.Other ebooksDon't forget to visit my eBay store regularly!
