Not just a chord book....these texts actually teach how to create improvised chord lines during a solo. These books are guaranteed to profoundly change your thinking about guitar harmony. With over 200 pages of text, this is a complete Wes-style chord system, in three volumes. A bonus Gibson serial number document is also included. from the Google Jazz Guitar Forum..... "When I get round to clearing out my surplus guitar books, the only chord book I'll keep is Chordal Bebop Lines Vol. 2. " from the Jazz Guitar Forum... "...the book of Chordal Bebop Lines [is] the BEST I have ever seen on how to craft lines in block chords. I found one of them at my local library, and was so impressed, I bought all 3. They are tremendous." Recent ebay feedback.... "Fast delivery to Germany. Fantastic books. Highly recommended" A typical Wes Montgomery solo often escalates in interest from single notes, to octaves, to chordal lines.....With over 200 pages of text, these books teach a system for developing a method for improvisation in chordal lines, in the Wes style. The lines are written with a chord diagram over every melody note (you do not have to know how to read music to navigate these texts.) Volumes 1 and 2, How to Play Chordal Bebop Lines, for Guitar: Method books for the development of an improvisational style where you learn to play melodic lines in chords.....like Wes did. The cover says: "A guide for developing a chordal vocabulary for improvisation. Written with the styles of Wes Montgomery, Cal Collins, and Barney Kessel in mind". In the introduction, the author makes the following comment....."There are many books which deal with chord forms, comping, and chord-melody playing, but these do not provide a vocabulary for the kind of harmonized soloing that Wes and others have done. In "How to Play Chordal Bebop Lines", volumes 1 and 2, the goal is to develop a vocabulary for improvising in lines of chords." Table of contents - chord scales, 28 inversions of each type of chord, and hundreds of actual phrases and patterns in chords. (Much like Jerry Coker's Patterns for jazz, only the lines are in chords, for guitar.) Melodic lines, in chords, are written with a melody line and a fret diagram by each melody note. Poor readers can benefit greatly from this style of writing. Many actual phrases by Wes, Cal Collins, and Barney Kessel. Also some solo excerpts by these players. Volume 3, Chorded Solos Workbook: a collection of prearranged ‘improvisations’, written in chordal fashion for guitar. The book contains Wes-style chorded solos for the following tunes: Ceora, Days of Wine and Roses, Dexter's Textures (G Blues), Confirmation, and Bb Rhythm Changes. The workbook provides examples of Wes-style chord improvisations....in an easy to read/understand format. All chord voicings are written above the melody line in diagram form. "This collection of arrangements is exemplary of how a vocabulary of chordal patterns can be linked together over active chord progressions, in a manner that puts forth a strong melodic composition. The solos in this volume are illustrations of that advanced technique. The solos are written over standard tunes, and a ‘fake sheet’ of the basic chord progression precedes each solo. This allows a comparison of the basic chord changes of each tune to the written solos, as a means of understanding how the chordal phrases are employed, and to see how they connect changing tonal centers." All three volumes have heavy score paper and nice spiral binding so will lay flat on your stand. A must-have collection for intermediate to advanced players that are interested in exploring chordal improvisation in the Wes style. BONUS - A booklet entitled Discoveries of Gibson es: Serial Number Identification During Gibson's Golden Era, 1940's - 1970's. Includes listings of Gibson serial numbers between 1947 through 1977.
