Description
This is my 9' Weber NY concert grand from 1885. It is two-tone rosewood (Interior Light Walnut and Exterior Medium Rosewood) with an Art Case. It is in excellent condition with new strings and dampers. It has never been taken apart or drastically overhauled in any way. Holds tune for a long time. Full plate and modern action design. The plate has some nice decoration and the piano has never been messed with so it has all of it's originality intact but still plays beautifully. Has original finish with barely a scratch to be found. I have since wiped down the soundboard and the plate since the photo's were taken and they are beautiful and very decorative! Keys are perfect. I am the second owner after the Greenbrier hotel in West Va. where the piano spent most of it's life. The hotel is quite famous and was one of the fanciest of the 19th century resorts. After the Greenbrier Hotel the piano resided on loan at Central Synagogue in NYC. This Weber is an incredible instrument and the best among all the German piano builders working in America during the 1880's. The construction of the Weber is piano is modern and it is tuned to 440 making this concert grand suitable for any church, synagogue, or musical institution where a full size, capable, concert grand piano is desired. The reserve is set very reasonably. Do your research and see what comparable Steinway concert grands are selling for. You will find that original art case instruments are very rare and are usually priced north of $100,000. Shortly after this Weber was constructed Steinway somewhat unscrupulously patented many of the very innovations and developments of Weber NY which were brought to the United States at that time from Germany. Actions like these drove the finest American piano makers like Weber and Chickering to cease production of concert grand pianos by the turn of the century. This may be the only surviving example of a Weber NY 9' concert grand surviving today.
