"A.Y. Urshan" the original owner, was born "August 15, 1880". We have to keep in mind that in 1900, there were no Drivers Licenses or Social Security Numbers, so people would use their Birth Date to qualify their Identification. And, in fact there is an "A. Urshan" recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau as living in San Bernardino, California in the 1930s. It is likely that the second date on this paper, "October 19, 1904" refers to the date he acquired the banjo.Every Picture Tells A Story...please view images for details. I believe the only flaw is a small logo piece missing from the head, otherwise, as beautiful a banjo as one could hope to find and of a quality not matched by today's instruments, no matter who the maker.
