Description
Up for auction is a used Vintage Slingerland Radio King Snare drum size 15”x8”. The shell is 3ply Mahogany with maple Re-Rings. It has the Radio King COB Hoops, 3-point throw-off, Art-Deco Lugs, and deep snare bed. This snare drum produces the fattest and deepest snare sound I’ve ever heard. No 14” compares. In fact, my primary snare drum is a 14” Solid Shell Radio King, and compared to that snare, this 15” has all the same characteristics, but on steriods. It is bigger, fatter, woodier, darker, and has more low-end punch. The tone of this snare is rich and chocolately. The fundamental pitch of the shell is D. Its tuned to an F and sounds really good. I recommend replacing the heads and wires to really make this drum spectacular. It has an old vintage Remo Coated Emperor on top and a snare side thin Slingerland head on the bottom. Cosmetically, its in good shape, as the photos indicate. Two of the lugs seem to have been replaced with the larger Slingerland lugs at one point; but now the correct lugs are on the shell. Check out the photos. The washers on the inside for the lugs are aftermarket. The shell and hoops have some scuffs, nothing major. The snare wires are vintage 15”s. The strainer works great. If you want a massive sounding drum, you’ve found it! Please ask questions. I’m extremely easy to contact. Check out my feedback, I only sell quality drum gear. Paypal or money orders only. Shipping is $25 in the US. Thanks and check out my other auctions for Meinl Byzance Darks, Paistes, and old A Zildjians to come. On Dec-04-08 at 08:07:26 PST, seller added the following information:I've had a couple of questions about the sound of this drum. The first time I played this snare drum, it reminded me of my first taste of a triple stout brewed with chocolate malts. At first, I was over whelmed with the rich complex flavors, and I didn't like it. But, after a couple, I started to appreciate the subtly of its deliciousness. Now, there's no going back to the light brews. If you're looking for the pop and crack of a 13" brass snare, this is not the drum for you. If you want a the head turning, fat, slow, dry, dark, sound that only this old mahogany can give, then there's only one.
