(Which, in fact, may be more than the stated cost). For bid here is a vintage Orpheum four string Banjo. One string is missing. It measures 33 1/2" in length. The diameter of the pot is 11 5/8". The white tag riveted to the wood on the inside reads ORPHEUM Made by WM. L. LANGE NEW YORK. Stamped on the wood nearby is PATENTED 724833. The skin is watermarked Jos. B. Rogers Jr UNION BRAND WARRENTED. The bridge is marked GROVER NONTIP. I am not an expert on musical instruments esp banjos so I have included a lot (30+) of photographs. Please press the refresh button on the page if they do not download. Here are some random observations on the condition of the banjo. The banjo appears to be very sound structurally. There are signs of minor use but I see absolutely no repairs, cracks or other faults in the wood. I believe it is all original. The wood has a lovely old patina Unfortunately the banjo was not stored in a case. This has resulted in oxidation and some pitting to the metal particularly at the top of the banjo. This is clearly evident in the photos. The skins is a little discolored and stained. The peg head is inlayed with mother of pearl (or abalone) which doesn't show up well in the photos. None of the inlay work on the head and the neck is broken or repaired. The strip between the head and the neck is appears to be bone. The tuners appear to be very old plastic.
