These were also known as piccolo, pony or lady's banjos I believe. Then this one came up and it was an OME...apparently the first one that the company made back in 1978. It was custom made for the president of Pepsi-Cola at that time and his initials (RG) are inlaid in the headstock - right over the OME logo. This banjo only has a few tiny scuffs in the finish. There are 19 and 1/2 frets with some of the prettiest inlay you'll ever see. Dual co-ordinator rods in the back keep it straight. OME tailpiece and hand rest are original...even the 11" skin on the pot says "OME, Boulder Colorado". Nut measures 1and 1/4". Serial # looks like 2076. Neck and pot appear to be mahogany with an ebony fingerboard with cream piping over a black then another light colored line. Nine of the frets have beautiful pearlish inlays and the headstock is also highly detailed. Compensated bridge may or may not be original and the Planetary tuning machines are new but replicate the originals exactly. 24 tension hooks & all metal shines like new. Heel cap even has detail. Banjo has a tone ring for volume but I do not know the metal. I'm told this banjo is documented on the OME history web site. There you will find an OME catalogue for 1978 with this banjo listed as a "Triple X Short Scale Banjo" serial number 2076. Possibly the only one they made?
