Description
This is a very rare Ludwig 15 x 6.5 snare drum dating from the 1930s. The model is the Super Sensitive, i.e. with 2 snare sets (one under top head and one under snare head) with 10 tube lugs and the brass shell. This drum is very original with only a few replacement parts. The nickle finish is VERY badly worn; I've tried to show in the photos that in places it has gone entirely, exposing the brass shell. Hoops and lugs have much more of the plating left but are also worn. The tension rods and washers all have some degree of rusting ranging from good condition to fair. Snare strainer on snare side head is fully working and equiped with original individually adjustable snare strainer (all working) and replacement silk/wire snares. Snare guards look like replacements. Top snare is complete but the top part of the lever is a reproduction, and the wire snares do not appear to be original (one strand is also missing) but it works fine. The shell has a few small dents the worst of which is under a tube lug and can be seen in one of the photos. Bearing edges are great! The heads are Remo Renaissance top and bottom. This drum came from a brass band in Scotland, via Gary Noonan, to me about 8 years ago. How it got to Scotland is a mystery... There aren't too many Super Sensitives with 2 working snares around, let alone a 15 x 6.5. I've owned a lot of 1930s Ludwigs and this is the only working example I've seen. Alas, now surplus to requirements and seeking a friendly home! This is a big snare drum and can be very loud - it is much too big for my playing environment! It is in full playing order and in good enough condition with enough original parts to interest a serious collector. Buyer pays exact shipping and packing - no extras! Be warned, it is heavy! Can arrange for pickup in Central London, if required. PayPal prefered but I will take a cheque. Please ask any questions.
