CHEERSMy email question:Dear Christine , I saw your web site and was wondering if you could tell me when this trumpet was made and if it has any value.it is a conn made in Elkhart Indianna .M t5hen 117186under that is an eagle and trade markthe bell (round end) ??? is very ornate lots of engraving with leaves etc..It was found in my girlfriends attic it was her fathers . I appreciate any information you can give and thanks a million.REPLY:Hi Mark,The serial number indicates it was built in 1910. Not many trumpets built back then. In that period cornets were far more popular. The M means it is a medium bore. It looks like it has an extra insert slide (brace near the main tuning slide), which means it was built for both high and low pitch. Low pitch is the modern pitch where A=440 Hz. High pitch instruments were made up until about world war 2, but became rare after the 1920's.These things come up rarely on eBay so it is difficult to determine a value for it. It appears to be in relatively good condition. If you plan on selling it, do also include the original case if you still have it, regardless of its condition. An original case helps the value, even if it is in terrible condition.
