All armored Conns are rare, but this 424N model doesn't even appear on any manufacturers lists I could find, however the serial number indicates it was made around 1926.  This clarinet has a character similar to the later 444, but I like it better, and this is the type of clarinet a jazz players tend to like. It took me 10 years to find three of these and this one was a major salvage job. Four different people worked on it... replacement keys were fabricated, a non-original thumrest installed, the middle joit was replaced, and of course pads and springs...also the barrel was missing and a replacement similar to the original was colored silver. I didn't like the way the middle joint was repaired, and instead of re-do it I glued the clarinet together since I had a very nice vintage Conn case that fit it that way. Get this to work again took tremendous effort, but it was worth while, plays well now, and should last many years.
