Description
STORED IN A CLOSET FOR 40 YEARS 1964 GRETSCH CHET ATKINS GUITAR MODEL 6120 WITH ORIGINAL CASE$4,995.00 AS CLOSE TO NEW AS YOU CAN GET. This guitar and case was used for a short while and then stored in a closet for 40 years. PHOTOS OF TWO GRETSCH GUITARS: I have two Gretsch guitars and I’m selling the 1964 model, the 1962 Gretsch went through some experimental modifications, a hole near the toggle switches for a phase switch, a hole in the head stock for banjo tuning peg for a double G string, and a Bigsby palm pedal. It’s still a great guitar but it’s not in its original condition, I still use that one. THE GUITAR I’M SELLING: A 1964 Gretsch Chet Atkins model 6120 purchased in the latter part of 1964. I played both guitars for a while and then placed the 1964 guitar in a closet where it stayed for 40 years. The guitar was always kept in a cool dry place so there are no warping, buckling, or binding issues. There are NO finish checkmarks and the gold plating looks great. The orange Gretsch color is as vibrant as the day it was purchased, the electronics of the guitar are in good working order, no scratchy pots and no signs of rust, the neck is straight and the action is terrific. To get a newer or better #6120 Gretsch you would have to go back to the year 1964 and buy it. SOME HISTORY: I purchased my first Chet Atkins Gretsch (model 6120) in 1962 and then purchased the second #6120 in 1964 when it was rumored that the Baldwin piano company wanted to buy the Gretsch Company; Gretsch eventually sold to Baldwin in 1967. I purchased the second guitar to make sure I would always have an authentic Gretsch Chet Atkins guitar, one that was made by Gretsch. I still play the first of the two Gretsch guitars I purchased but I doubt that I will ever use the second one again; I’m 76 years old. DATING & SERIAL NUMBERS: Here is the information for both guitars so you can compare the dates of manufacture and serial numbers. #1- the serial number of the Gretsch I purchased in 1962 is 48812 #2- the serial number of the Gretsch I purchased in the latter part of 1964 is 80036. This is the guitar that is for sale STUFF YOU ALREADY KNOW: This is a Chet Atkins model 6120. The color is Gretsch Orange, it has a dual cutaway, it has two Filter-Tron pickups, a pop-up mute, a standby switch, and simulated f-holes. The original hard-shell case is included and it is also as new. If you want to know what the guitar sounds like, buy any of the fifty guitar albums Chet Atkins has recorded and you’ll know. I’m a former student of Julius Hart Music and I took the model 6120 through many musical transitions, Rock, Pop, Country, Light Jazz, Latin, etc. the guitar always fit the genre of the music I played, it’s a very versatile guitar. THAT’S IT: Feel free to ask questions about the guitar, I’m not a vintage guitar expert or collector but I’ll do my best to answer your questions. Payment method: Cashiers check Shipping: If shipping and insurance for delivery to your location is cheaper than $120.00 I will refund the difference
