Description
You are bidding on the West African Calabash Style Thumb Piano from Mali pictured here. I have seen some that are better made than this one but it is worthwhile buying something like this since these do not come around. This thumb piano is the equivalent of the most widely known Southern and East African style known as Mbira. Diameter: approximately 10 inches (25cm). This thump piano is made with a gourd usually known as calabash (its resonator). This calabash has a small tear on the brim that does not affect anything and I will indeed glue that small tear before packing. The keys are made by flattening iron rods and these days most are made with bicyle spokes. To tighten the keys, you need to push the two perpendicular pieces of metal inward. If you are an African traditional music enthusiast, an ethnomusicologist, a collector of exotic musical instrument this is a great opportunity. This instrument can be hanged onto a wall when you are done playing it or for decorative purposes. $25.00 shipping and handling fee for international destinations.
