Description
About the Reeds... I am selling 3 bassoon reeds to suit both professionals and students alike. The reeds are made by me, Ryan Van Liere and have been described by my teachers and students as very playable and flexible reeds with lovely response and intonation throughout the register and this is done without sacrificing the dynamic range. Reeds are hand made using "Gouged-only" Rigotti cane. Each piece of reed cane is soaked for app. 24 hours, then profiled using a Pfeifer style profiler, with a Van Hoesen profile. After profiling the reed is shaped using a Fox #3 shaper. The tube is formed using a heated mandrel while the wire is added. The reeds dry overnight before being wrapped with thread and sealed. From here, the reeds rest for a month before the tips are cut and the reed is finished. Reeds will be finished on the day the auction ends before 5pm or the next day if the auction ends after 5pm and shipped upon completion (in most cases, the next day). The auction winner may e-mail me with information regarding their style of playing (i.e.,whether you want a brighter, buzzy, resonant, reed or a darker, smoother reed more suited to chamber music) and I will try to accomodate. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I have been making reeds for 14 years now (almost as long as I've been playing the bassoon). I hold a BMus from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY USA) and an MMus from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow, Scotland, UK). My principal teachers include John Hunt, David Van Hoesen, Chris Robson, and Janet Bloxwich. I have appeared as a soloist with the Utah Symphony and the RSAMD Orchestra and am a professional free-lance bassoonist and bassoon teacher in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. *Reeds in picture are not the exact reeds you will receive; however, they are reeds made by me according to the same specifications listed above. The only difference is, your reeds may have different thread color.
