Very Special French Violin Henri Wagner, Paris, c. 1900exquisite rare and fine For your bidding pleasure, a rare and very special, antique French violin. Of superb quality. this violin is guaranteed to be the work of Henri Wagner. This is an early creation of the maker, before he was awarded the Gold Medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1910. Beautiful model, sleek, with low arching. Delicate fluting of f holes. Fully lined and all 4 corners blocked. Silky and Soft honey golden oil varnish, original, some dings, dents, and scratches nothing major.... A wing crack, repaired, and small one near the saddle area also repaired. The previous owner stupidly hung the violin on the wall like a picture, and made the small holes in the upper and lower blocks, fortunately, the damage was not as bad as it could have been. The Button never broke free of back, and the neck never came out, see pics, The button separated from the heel just barely...causing the v shaped cracks see in the pics...they didn't go through to the back of the plate...button and v shaped cracks were cleaned out, and then reglued with fresh, strong, hide glue.and two small holes in button and lower back, should be filled, the work of a previous owner. One edge repaired in area of chinrest see pics. small repair at either side of button on back. Here's a shot of a fracture on the upper bass ribNo sound post or bass bar cracks. Peg box is perfect. Scroll is big and powerful see pics. The overall impression of this violin is of high quality, and exceptional beauty. The top if of highest quality tone wood. The back sides and neck are of eye popping curly maple. Outstanding one piece back. Top notch materials. It is around 100 years old. The violin is in excellent ready to play condition.Original ebony pegs...they hold well, turn smooth, and tuning is easy.... New bridge, sound post, beautiful inlaid tailpiece and ebony endpin. New tailgut, and Pirastro Tonica strings with Kaplan non whistle E string. The fingerboard has been planed true and everything is as it should be. All parts are checked for fit and function. The violin has its original and authentic label and is branded under the treble side f hole: Henri Wagner. Label Says: Fait avec les principes et le vernisde l'Antique Ecole de Cremone.Retrouve par H. WAGNER, 6, Rue de L'Isly, Paris. and the violin is branded "Henri Wagner" into the back plate, below the treble side f hole. Measures: length of back: 14"; lower bout: 8 1/4".TONE: The tone is ethereal, ringing and resonant, filled with warmth and rising overtones. It has brilliance, power, lightning fast resonse.
