This fabulous walnut piece carries with it history, grace and elegance. Although walnut was used before the dawn of history- centuries have not robbed this cabinet wood of its youth or versatility. Elegance of design reached its peak during the reign of Louis XV. No extravagance was too high for a court ruled by the Pompadour and du Barry. Yet, this very extravagance bred a beauty never surpassed to this day. This model #50 Sohmer Louis XV grand pictured is a pure example of this period- with out compromise. Coupled with the unequaled Sohmer tone and touch- it represents the highest conception of the Grand Piano. Most 5’ grands are nearly as wide as long- but not the Sohmer. Although a full 5 feet in length, the Sohmer grand is only 4’3 in width- thus carrying out the true tradition of the grand. This Sohmer grand piano is made of the finest walnut. In 1884 Hugo J. Sohmer was granted the “letter patent” and created the first five-foot piano in the world! The first five-foot grand is still in use and played by many well known visitors when they travel to galleries in New York to this day. This Sohmer carried with it the true RICH AND FULL-THROATED TONE which is the key to the melodious depth . This Sohmer still carries that same unique tonal quality contained in every modern Sohmer piano that is built today. This is an Ebay exclusive. All of the original certifications come with this fabulous piece. In 1936, this Sohmer was granted and certified no. 88049 “42” LXV Wal., as they put it. H.J. Sohmers original signature graces every piece of paper work associated with this majestically beautiful piece. The original inspection papers and bill of sale typed at a time when the old fashioned type writers were used to document papers. Its truly a wonderful discussion piece to make the focal point of any living room. Its a extraordinary time piece to own. There is a fine superficial scratch on the piano bench but nothing obvious to the naked eye. Today’s market makes owning documented original American history a bit tough. It can be nearly impossible for something of this grand nature, no pun intended! Most pieces in todays piano resale market have been retouched, refurbished or altered in some way. Not this piano, it is all ORIGINAL. This is a true investment that will retain its value.
