MONACO Published by Broadway Music Corporation New York, 1913 WHILE THEY WERE DANCING AROUND Composer: James Monaco ( 1885 - 1945 ) Lyricist: Joe McCarthy ( 1885 - 1943 ) Printed music with pictorial exterior; approx. 10 1/2 " x 13 3/4"; sheet folded once with single inserted leaf ... words and music; back exterior of sheet has advertisements for another song: (I'm Crying Just For You) CONDITION: Clean, complete and presentable with the following imperfections : A small (approx. 1") piece is torn from the bottom edge of the rear cover (see picture below); various other small tears and wrinkles along edges - mostly fore-edge; the interior sheet has an equally rough fore-edge; the spine fold of the exterior sheet is fully split / separated and thus each sheet of this music lays independently from the others -- there is moderate surface rub and abrasion, however the image on the front still presents quite nicely and would look great framed. The front cover has a marvelous image of a man and woman dancing - he in tails, with his back to viewer, she in a red dress and a red feather in her hair, looking delightedly over his shoulder. Their attitude is carefree and her red dress and petticoats flare out around the man's body. . This is a nifty example of illustrative art in the French Poster Style. As stated above, it would be a superb bit of decorative art if it were framed. This is the original sheet music and not a reproduction.. This is the original sheet music from 1913, not a facsimile.
