Description
Shakuhachi 1.6 - Signed thrice by maker - Taihou. Greetings to all in the Shakuhachi community, beginners, intermediates, advanced, and masters.Welcome to my auction for this truly wonderful and very rare Taihou master Shaku-roku-sun instrument, stamped three times.I truly appreciate everyone's positive response and feedback to my auctions of shakuhachi instruments.Instruments as good as this one and others I am auctioning are either truly very superb instruments suitable for master players looking for master instruments and/or well working instruments suitable for beginners, intermediates and advanced learning this truly wonderful and healing instrument. Such instruments are very hard to come by and very hard to find even here in Japan. I am passing them along to shakuhachi enthusiasts all over the world in the hopes of familiarizing everyone with good quality instruments at a fraction of what they would cost if bought from stores or private sellers around the world, even here in Japan. Similar instruments are sold for twice, three times, and even four times the price they are ending on these auctions. Although very rare, I feel that if such instruments are found, I have opted to pass them and the savings simply because these instruments have been used. Yes, some of them were made by famous makers, and some of them truly have a unique quality and a unique market, but even those I will pass on at a fraction of the cost. What's my cause? It is simply my love for the instrument and everything it has brought for me and my family, and hope it would bring the same to you. So good luck to all and I hope to hear from all those who are going to own and play those instruments.By the way, all those instruments have been in my possession for at least 6 months, some even for more than 2 years, and some even having been my main instruments in performances, around the world. So I have taken the necessary time to play them, test them over a long period of time, and make the best assessment on what value I can place on them.A little about me - the seller:Kyle Kamal Helou has been here in Japan training full time in Karate and Shakuhachi since August 2000. Now, teaching Karate as a licensed instructor in Shotokan Karate under the tutelage of Kagawa Masao Sensei at the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) Headquarters Dojo, as a Graduated Instructor from their Kenshusei/Shugyosei Instructor Training Program. He is the only non-Japanese to hold this license. He is also a licensed Jun-Shihan under the tutelage of Christopher Yohmei Blasdel Sensei from Chikumeisha Shakuhachi Guild.Kyle also studied and performs around the world the Doukyoku repertoire. He studied these pieces under the tutelage of Sogawa Kinya Sensei, the maker of this wonderful master instrument. Sogawa Sensei studied Shakuhachi under Yokoyama Katsuya Sensei, and Shakuhachi making under the world renowned Shakuhachi maker Tamai Chikuzen.A little about this auction:After almost 14 years of playing the Shakuhachi, I feel that the instrument I have here on this auction is of great value to all players all the way to the master and professional players. This Shakuhachi is also suited for all genres of music, including the traditional Kinko-ryu gaikyoku and Honkyoku, the Doukyoku pieces of the Watazumido Honkyoku, as well as modern pieces.About the Instrument:This is a two piece Ji-ari Shaku-roku-sun (1.6) in the key of E tuned at A440 with excellent balance and superb tuning. One thing to note about this instrument, however, is that I play it in a slightly "meri" position to get the clearest, on pitch and best rounded sound this instrument can produce. When it's out, that sound is very vibrant, sweet with a tone color very similar to that of antique instruments. If you add a little more strength and focus to the blowing, you will attain a loud and robust sound very similar to some of the modern instruments. This instrument would be a perfect instrument to complement any of the other 1.8 instruments I am auctioning.Once in that slightly "meri" position, you will require almost no embouchure adjustments to play all the fingerings in pitch, making it extremely stable and highly reliable for professional stage performances. The tone is wonderfully well rounded and rich. Tone color is very sweet and vibrant.Instrument weight: 360grams.Aesthetics:This instruments is truly beautiful with naturaly well-aligned-paralleled joints and a beautiful bend at the root end, giving it that classic shakuhachi look.It is in perfect working condition with no cracks.
