Description
This 1966 Selmer Mark VI Tenor saxophone Serial number is 133,xxx  is truly unbelievably pristine..  hardly ever played with 99.9% original lacquer and pristine condition key work. There are only 2 places of wear or scratches on the instrument and they are very minor.. More photos can be emailed on request. ... All Questions Welcome.   Here is its story…. This sax was made in 1966 and sold through a London store (I believe) in January of 1967. I am the third owner of this sax as the very old Italian man (Michael) I bought it from told me its history.   Michael had a freind who bought the sax new in 1967, and also bought Eby’s Scientific Method for Saxophone and went back to Italy and proceeded to learn how to play. His notations can be found in the part 1 of the book set. In March of 1968 he had not progressed past book 1 and later that year gave up learning and packed the saxophone away in the cupboard. Micheal met up with his friend in Italy and in 1971 bought the saxophone from his friend and he too started to learn how to play. After about 12 months Michael played some Jazz with some friends and it was Michael who scratched the bell and caused the wear marks you see on the sax today. The scratch on the bell are from a home made stand he used.   Michael & his wife then moved to Perth Western Australia in 1974 and for some reason he never played it again. I bought the saxophone from Michael a few months ago and so it had been in storage since 1975. So this instrument has literally been stored 95% of the time since 1966 !! and had never been removed from its case between 1975 and early 2008.   The original case is in extremely good condition as well. I had a couple of small dents removed and a full overhaul and re-pad which was done by a professional saxophonist and technician. The reason this sax is so rare among mark VI saxophones is because the keywork is as good as it was the day it was made. There is absolutely no keywork mechanism wear at all. It is like playing a brand new saxophone. Except of course this is a Mark 6 and the lacquer is absolutely gorgeous, with that deep honey color that these VIs have. Having other priorities in my life  I can not justify keeping so much money tied up in one instrument when my playing isn’t that wonderful. However, in the hands of a gifted player, this horn has the sweetest sound i've ever heard from a sax. Bid early and bid often, You will never see another Mark VI Tenor quite like this one !!  and niether will I. Amazingly, Everything that was originally purchased in 1967 is still with the instrument. Including the original Bakelite Selmer mouth piece and Selmer ligature and original Selmer neck strap. The song Book set is also a collectable item. It is the complete set,  parts 1 – 4. I will ship this INTERNATIONALLY. And I recommend  the winning bidder  take out  postal insurance. Cost of postage is a flat $200 as I will pack it very well and this keeps things simple. The purchaser will need to pay for insurance if they want it. International bidders please note: You might be responsible for customs duty and taxes. I will not undervalue this item on the customs form. Please do not ask me to do so. Thanks! Payment can be made through Paypal or Money Wire. Once I have recieved cleared funds the sax will be shipped. Sure there are quite a few Mark6 tenors out there. But Ask yourself... HOW MANY OF THEM ARE IN BRAND NEW ORIGINAL CONDITION... (notwithstanding a couple of minor marks)  i think this could be the only one.
