Description
Selmer Mark VI 6 Alto Saxophone Sax #232xxx VERY NICE!! Original laquer - High f# - One owner - AWESOME PLAYER You are bidding on a Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone. This is a truly beautiful horn in VERY GOOD condition. I am the original owner of this horn. Bought it with hard-earned paper route money in 1975. It was hand-picked at Manny's Music in NYC.It has a high F#.This horn is an AWESOME PLAYER and was hand picked.I played this horn just about every day for 20 years culminating in a MM in saxophone performance, and then took up oboe. Since then it has spent most of its time in my closet. Since I have 2 Mark VIs and haven't been playing much alto, it's time to sell this horn. This is a beautiful horn. It plays wonderfully in tune without having to adjust your embouchure for every note. The action is quick and smooth. It has just been completely cleaned and lubed. All corks, pads, and felts are in excellent condition. It has been repadded twice. The last time was about 1994 by Oleg of Los Angeles. It has crinkled metal (Noyek) resonators, and seals perfectly. Hasn't needed adjustments since that last repad. The pad job on this horn should last another 20 years. It's a great job.I have always been very careful with this horn. It has never been dropped or dinged or scrapped on a chair. Even used neck straps with plastic hooks.I can vouch that the laquer has never been stripped. It hard to estimate these things, but I'd say it's is about 93-95%. Most of the laquer wear is on the keys, and there are a few keys where some of the laquer flaked off. By comparing it with other horns on eBay, others might say it's more than 95%.Since the later Mark VI's don't have the serial number on the neck, there is no serial number on the neck. It is the original one I got with the horn. It was adjusted by Oleg to fine tune the intonation of the horn. This horn has a nice full sound and a great dynamic range. Altissimo notes pop out without difficulty. Another aspect about the later Mark VI's is that the ergonomics of the key positions are much improved from the earlier horns where the person who assembled them often placed the keys to fit their own hands. (If you ever have a chance compare multiple Mark VI's side by side, you'll see what I mean). In the later horns the keys fall in more natural positions for most people. Also the intonation is so much better than the earlier horns. (I've played many early horns and although the sound can be richer and fuller because of subtle differences as the model evolved, you often have to do embouchure gymnastics to play it in tune). With this horn, you blow and move your fingers and make slight adjustments from the top to the bottom of the horn. And, of course, you have that gorgeous, thick, dreamy Selmer Mark VI sound.I loved playing classical sax music with this horn. But I haven't done that since my master's recital. Guess I got my fill of that. Nowadays I find I'd rather play oboe in an orchestra than alto in a wind ensemble or quartet.I also played jazz with this horn, and like all Mark VI's it has a gorgeous full jazz sound that depends upon the player and the mouthpiece/reed setup. If you're looking for a nice Mark VI that was lovingly taken care of by a single owner, this is a good choice. This horn wants to be played and I don't have enough hours in the day to play it.An SKB case is included. This is too nice of a horn to ship back and forth. So in order to not risk damaging the horn, I will not accept returns. From a smoke free, pet free home.p.s. His name is "Claude" because he was born in France. This is a beautiful instrument at a good priceFeatures: • Mark VI sound • High F# • Original laquer • Excellent playing condition • Cleaned and lubed • Single owner • Very nice actionWhat is included: • Selmer Mark VI • SKB Case Shipping will be via FedEx Ground or FedEx Home and insured for the full value.
