Description
You are bidding in a Selmer Bassoon. This bassoon was purchased new in 1999 and was used by my son for three years in high school. It has been stored since then. I believe it is model 1432B by referring to the Selmer website (it appears that they make two bassoons, one that is maple wood and one, like this one for sale, that is made of Resonite plastic). The following description is taken from their website, since I am not knowledgeable about the musical details of the instrument: "High-impact plastic body, nickel-plated key mechanism, Heckel system, high C key, F # trill, large ring A and C#-D# trills, rollers for C#-D# and F-Ab, kid leather pads, two bocals, wood shell case." The bassoon is in very good to excellent condition. The pads look fine and the mechanisms move smoothly. Two corks show cracking, probably due to dryness during storage. One is on one of the bocals, and the other is at the end of one of the long pieces (see pictures). There are a very few small scuffs in the plastic and there is a tiny tear in the cover of the case less than an inch long repaired with glue. The case is otherwise in excellent condition inside and out, and other than the minor blemishes noted, the instrument looks great. The instrument comes with the hard case that locks and includes two keys, two bocals, a swab, a sling, another strap of some sort, and a black thing that looks like a screwdriver. It also includes two reeds--I am not sure if they are brand new or not, but you can do what you wish with them. The instrument was purchased new in 1999 for a price that I recall was under $3,000. New Selmer 1432B bassoons are currently listed at $3,799. If you are looking for a quality, durable instrument that will last for years, this is it. Since the instrument has been only lightly used and is in good shape, I would like to recoup at least $1,749, which is my reserve. I will also ask that you pay a flat fee for shipping, handling and insurance costs of $75.00 to anywhere in the US or Canada (I will ship via USPS or UPS ground, as appropriate). I will accept payment by PayPal only--contact me if you absolutely have to make a different arrangement. If you have any other questions, please contact me, and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for you interest, and good luck bidding.
