Description
USED SCHRIEBER BASSOON Serial No. 93xx READY TO PLAY - GREAT FOR BEGINNER Here is a beautiful vintage Schreiber Bassoon, standard German (Heckel) system, in ready-to-play condition - orignally made in Germany. I just went over this horn, oiled the bore with light mineral oil, and adjusted all of the keywork, added and replaced corks and pads as needed, made any and all necessary repairs, and play tested the instrument.  I also replaced the tenon corks with thread wrappings.  The tread wrappings add extra strength to the tenons, which is a good thing for a beginner instrument.  The instrument body is made from Alpine Maple.  This instrument would be ideal for a grade school, middle school, or high school bassoonist on a budget who simply can not afford the $4000 or more it takes to acquire a good quality new student-bassoon.  I have a Master's Degree in bassoon performance and years of bassoon experience - I will often find older bassoons and do what work is necessary to bring them up to a level that is easy for a beginner to play on.  I don't believe that it should cost $4,000 or more just to start playing a bassoon.  I don't sell a bassoon that my own students could not begin to play on.  Also, my experience has been that the $1,000 "new bassoons" that appear on eBay and elsewhere generally do not hold up well, and often leave a student so frustrated that they want to quit playing.  Regardless of whether you buy this bassoon or not, most people would be better off buying a quality used bassoon than a new bassoon that is made of inferior materials, and with inferior craftsmanship.  I also realize that buying a bassoon on eBay can be nerve wrecking and risky - in an effort to assist in that manner, I have included a few playing samples from the play testing I did of this instrument, which you may access by clicking on these links: http://jrdavis.home.googlepages.com/schreischer.mp3 http://jrdavis.home.googlepages.com/schreimozart.mp3 http://jrdavis.home.googlepages.com/schreiscale.mp3 These samples were just played quickly into the computer here at home.  I'd be happy to provide additional photos or samples at your request. Additionally, this bassoon includes the following: Original Case (usable) Two (2) swabs Seat strap Schreiber FE2 bocal (missing the bocal button vent - was included when I got the instrument, would need to be repaired to be usable) "Lesher" student bocal (decent match for this instrument, and good for a beginner to use) I'll also be happy to assist you in acquiring any other bassoon accessories you wish (hand crutches, reeds, different swabs or bocals, etc.) by recommending reputable double-reed shops where you can acquire these items if you wish.  However, all that you would need to add to this bassoon to start playing would be a reed of your choice.  Also, please note that even if you are not particularly interested in acquiring this bassoon, I'd be happy to answer any other general bassoon questions you may have.  In the past, I have assisted folks with finding rental instruments, and other new and used bassoons, who have contacted my through my eBay auctions.  I will be happy to be of assistance. Good luck and happy bidding, and as always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
