Description
Calicchio-Bach Trumpet – Great Lead/Jazz Horn!Bell: Calicchio 2L (lightweight): Bell Stamped: 2LD. CalicchioLos Angeles 2 bell This bell has slightly larger flare than the 1s bell, which gives it a broader core, while still generating that burnished, vibrant Calicchio sound. Warm, yet sizzling, the 2 bell projects to the back seats of any auditorium or theater, with the benefit of blending well in the section. Used by top professionals throughout the years, it can be heard in top showrooms from Las Vegas and Broadway to Monte Carlo and beyond. This bell will offer you lightning-quick response and flexibility that is unique to the Calicchio bell design.Leadpipe: Calicchio 2 (I would assume this is also an older LA item) #2 leadpipe This is the world-renowned leadpipe - great for any situation. Its unique design provides lightning-quick response with a very open air column. The 2 pipe gives the player the ability to play at any volume with immediate, clean attacks and a large, focused sound.Valve Section: Early Elkhart Bach Two-PieceSerial Number: 65180 (1970-74)Bore: MLFinish: Silver PlateRepairs/Modifications:Valve Overhaul: $360 (7/08 – Anderson Plating)Valve Alignment: $150 (5/08 – Ken Larson’s BrassWerks)Movable Bell Braces: $100 (5/08 – Ken Larson’s BrassWerks)Gold Plated Curry/SoundSleeve Lightweight Finger Buttons: $25Gold Plated Trim Kit: $87.99M/K Tuning Slide w/Elliptical Bend: $250Tunable Bell Conversion: $400REPAIRS/MODIFICATIONS TOTAL: $1372.99DescriptionUp for auction is a Calicchio/Bach Bb trumpet with a tuning bell conversion. I have owned this horn for about a year and it has been great! It is a very versatile horn. It was originally purchased from Dillon Music in New Jersey after being used by a NY player for quite a while – which is why I eventually had to have the valves rebuilt! I have used this for the end of my undergrad and for 1 semester of graduate work at IU Bloomington. I have used this horn for symphonic work, jazz combo, and lead in jazz band – it’s real strong point! The tuning bell setup allows for better than standard intonation as well as the option to change bells if so desired. The bell hardware is Schilke – original designer of the tunable bell. However the conversion left the bell un-braced and somewhat wild feeling. The movable bell braces designed by Ken Larson (Interlochen) has created even more response possibilities as well as projection. Before the braces, the low register was stuffy and the high register had a lot less focus. Ken also aligned the valves for me which evened-out the response of the horn. The Jon Faddis Schilke model has a tunable bell with a moveable front bell brace. The M/K tuning slide was purchased shortly after buying the horn. It had a slight elliptical bend added to it by a repair shop out east to help with airflow. The third first slide has a thumb ring that is very comfortable. I have a large thumb and it feels good. I also added an Amado water key to the third valve slide though the actual Bach-style slide still pulls out for dumping. There is a patch on the tube entering the 3rd valve from the bottom tuning slide receiver. The patch was done very well and looks very nice. There is also a patch on the bell bow. This was on the horn when I purchased it and am not sure what it is covering. Since the horn plays well I didn’t want to mess with it and find out. There is also a spot in the finish on the third valve casing just below the patched tube were the silver is bubbling a little. There are also some scratches on the mouthpiece receiver from using a BERP on it.Since the braces are movable, I have marked the brace locations with a silver sharpie. I will leave these markings on the horn for you though they polish right off. That way you have a starting point for moving their location to where you want them. I am including a Gator Lightweight trumpet case (wood frame and very padded), a K&M 5-leg trumpet stand, 1 bottle of new Bach valve oil, a gold plated B&S 5B Monette-style mouthpiece, a harmon mute (minus stem), a Humes & Berg straight & cup mute, and a two mouthpiece pouch that came with my Marcus Bonna case ($200 value!).This is truly a custom horn that you will not be able to get anywhere else. It is in great shape. However I am selling because my approach to playing has changed and I need a different kind of instrument. This total package is quite expensive if you were to have this done to a horn - $1373 just for the modifications. The parts are both vintage and high quality as is the assembly workmanship. This is a great horn and a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a unique and highly effective instrument! Remember this horn was played so much the valves had to be overhauled. That wouldn’t happen if it didn’t play well! International buyers, please e-mail for shipping quote before bidding. Due to customs restrictions, I CANNOT SHIP TO ITALY! SORRY.
