Description
The 4001CS is a reproduction of Chris Squire's famous 1964 RM 1999 (4001s), reflecting many of the mods he's made to this iconic instrument. This particular bass was made in 1999 and is one of only 1000 in the limited run. The neck has been slimmed down, the fretboard is lacquered vermilion (with matching headstock wings), and the finish is a mellow aged cream color. It has both sought-after vintage-style pickups: the toaster in the neck position and the horseshoe at the bridge. Between these two pickups you can get any of the classic Rickenbacker sounds, from the Chris Squire clank (duh) through the Geddy Lee growl all the way to the Paul McCartney thud, with many other tonal variations to explore. The Chris Squire signature model has a couple of quirks. The finish on many of these basses has faded or discolored over time with use. There are a couple of dark streaks on this one, and a few dings. The pickguard has cracked in a few places around the knobs and selector switch, another fairly common issue with these back-painted clear plexi guards. I will send to the buyer a brand-new replacement guard (no signature, of course) that is on order from Pickguardian, so you can take off the original guard if you want to. Take a look at the pics for these issues and if there's anything else you'd like to see, let me know. These issues of course don't affect how this plays and sounds -- fantastic on both counts. The 4001CS is sought after for its pickups and thin, comfy neck, and the fact that they're highly collectible is a nice bonus. The battle scars are a testament to the fact that this bass has been played! It's far too great a player to have sat in someone's closet, untouched. This bass comes in its original silver vintage reissue case, which is a bit worn but with fully functioning hardware. Please let me know if you have any questions. I've shipped basses and guitars all over the country and to Europe with no problems -- I know how to pack safely and securely. I pack well and ship promptly; please refer to my excellent feedback record and ask any questions you may have. This is a great bass and I'm sure you won't be disappointed by it -- so sure that you can send it back to me for any reason within 14 days and I'll refund the purchase price (less shipping), as long as it's returned in the condition it arrived in.Shipping is free within the United States! INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: I will only charge you what it costs me to ship to you, but keep in mind that I'll be shipping a box that is 52 in x 18 in x 8 in, and weighs around 30 pounds -- this could cost you more than $300-500 in shipping costs, although I can ship to some countries through USPS for less (although there is no tracking and limited insurance). Australia is very expensive for example because I cannot ship through USPS. You are also responsible for any import/customs/VAT or other fees incurred by bringing this bass into your country (and I'll declare the value at the level of the winning bid, no less). I can provide a more detailed shipping cost estimate upon request -- just send me a message. I don't want you to be surprised at how much it costs to ship, or how long it takes. I'll work with you to get it there as quickly, inexpensively, and safely as possible. I've successfully shipped internationally in the past. If your country accepts USPS shipments this large (many European countries do), then it'll be fairly reasonable and pretty quick, too. If you are an international bidder and you win the auction, please wait for me to send an invoice with the correct shipping amount for your location. Thanks! PayPal or bank transfer only outside the US. Within US, postal money orders are fine, though I reserve the right to wait for them to clear. I expect payment within 7 days of auction close, and please communicate with me before that to let me know what the plan is.
