Description
This has to be one of top "RARE offerings" found on an eBay auction.  What we have here is one of the RAREST, PRIZED & SOUGHT AFTER TRADITIONAL TONEWOODS in Guitar Luthiery/construction being offered here on eBay.......One Pre-Ban, Genuine Old Growth Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra).  Brazilian rosewood is as "rare" as South American snakewood & African Pink Ivory- what seperate this from the two other rare species is this particular tonewood was added on the C.I.T.E.S. (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)  endangered species list in the early 1990's (Appendices I, 1992).  So under Appendices I the harvesting and exporting of new timber was largely banned, so Brazilian rosewood has been scarce since the early 1990's.   This particular pre-ban, Dalbergia Nigra short quartered log was milled in the the early 1960's & I was very fortunate enough to have personally obtained it from a retired luthier.  I've had this particular piece in my private reserve collection since 1985 in a temperature controlled environment.  The size & quality of this short quartered log is almost non-existence in this day & age- just the shear fact of its shear size of a short quartered log, being quarter sawn, with deep rich chocolate brown hues with dark chocolate blank ink line striations, very dense material with tight annular growth rings spaced on the tight with the conventional rosy fragrance, fine flakes/flecks on the surface due to it being quartered with incredibly silky hand- all these qualtiites & elements makes it such a sought after & rare commodity in the WORLD. ******If you want to get an idea of what the color of this particular deep chocolate brown Brazilian rosewood compares to what the color of a dark chocolate bar is, just click on this link to view the image comparison: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/tea312/BRW265-PD/13.jpg ******  I've never had any urge or interest to resaw it as it seems that it would be better as a whole than the sum of its parts.  This would be a welcome addition to a "wood collectors" gallery, perhaps a guitar collector or to the hands of a skilled/experienced luthier to seek those many special builds or restorations.  THIS WOULD BE A GREAT INVESTMENT AS ANYTHING BUILT WITH BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD ONLY GOES UP & RETAINS ITS VALUE! Dimensions (approximate):  32-1/2+" x 5-3/4" tapering to 5-1/4" x 5-3/8" tapering to 5-1/8".  Dimensions are taken of the surfaced faces.       Air dried, rough surfaced planed 2 face & quarter sawn.  There are tiny pin knots/knot shadows, several shallow end check at one end of the endgrain, a planer/hit/skip/miss on one face towards the end & about midway parallel to the edge there is a stable 2" check, some shallow sapwood from the exterior log apertially permeating into the heartwood (1/4" to 1/2" at its deepest into the material), there is a saw bite rip at one end (approx 6-1/2" long) & there's a split on this end on the thin panel overhang, typical checks on the outside live edge, there are 2 cluster of resin/bore inclusion on one face tight to the outside corner edge (approx. 1/2" in diameter) .  This quarter log has been air drying & very, very well seasoned!         USA SALES ONLY DUE TO C.I.T.E.S. RESTRICTIONS!!!! ******Due to the rare nature & value of this item- this will only be shipped to a "confirm Paypal address".  There would be an adult signature required and/or a certified/return receipt with insurance.  This particular item will be treated like a high end guitar- so I will only ship this via UPS 3 day air or USPS priority mail.     If you do not have an excellent 100% positive feedback, email me prior to bidding for approval.  I have the right to cancel any bids that are not compliance to these simple guidelines******              This is a "once in a lifetime opportunity", so don't let this chance pass you by to win an an exceptional & prized tonewood!  This Old Growth Brazilian Rosewood are getting harder to find & is waiting to be used for multiple instrument projects!  Good luck & happy bidding!!
