That partnership was dissolved in 1835 and Currier went into business for himself. In 1852 he hired James Merritt Ives and in 1857 the parnership became "Currier & Ives" John H. Bufford operated lithography firms in New York (1835-1840) and Boston (1841-1871). He received his training by working for William S.
