The pickup is from a ES175 owned by a old Danish jazzmusican. He didn't like the sound of the pickup, and wanted it replaced. A well respected Danish music shop changed the pickup for him, and I bought the bad sounding pickup from them. No wonder this pickup sounded strange, the meter showed 4.3 ohm, not very much for a PAF. I opened the pickup (it has never been open before, I'm sure) and found that it was wired in parallel. This was done at the Gibson factory, nobody has done anything to that pickup, since it left the factory!!. I wired it in series, and Voila ! Now the pickup shows 8.4 ohms, and sounds wonderful. I used the same soldering, tape etc. So everything is original, and the tape has never been of the bobbins/coils, so no rewind etc. One of the pictures shows the pickup (front) in my Les Paul replica. The back pickup has a fake PAF decal, and You can easy se the difference. I never use the front pickup, so with the high prices on original PAF´s today, I can't afford to keep it. Low reserve !!
