Description
This Olds Super Recording trumpet, serial# 32757 is in raw brass and perfect, but used condition. There are no dents, dings or sign of any trauma. When tested, the valves show VERY little leakage. I'd put them at 96% percent, and have no problem saying that they DO NOT need a valve job. Valve action is lightning fast. As with all Super Recording trumpets, the craftmanship is superior. Intonation is spot-on. The horn is incredibly free-blowing and easy to play, with a gorgeous bright sound that can be darkened on demand. This horn was owned by a very well-known lead trumpet player, who played it as his main horn in a famous big band. I was told that he changed to another horn because this one was just burying the band with it's agressive sound. I'd never heard of Super Recording trumpets being particularly favored by lead players, but I'm not surprized. I don't know the gentleman personally, and don't feel comfortable naming him in this ad, but I'll tell you privately if you contact me. This horn would make an excellent candidate for restoration. It plays just as well as any modern horn right now the way it is, but a full restoration by Dr. Valve would make this horn something right out of your dreams. How do I know? Because I have another Super Recording that Dr. Valve restored for me. You don't think there's any way I'd part with this gem without having another one, do you? Actually, this horn sounds the same as my restored SR live and on recordings. My wife and friends can't tell them apart by the way they sound, and neither can I. But the restored horn feels a little better to play and it is drop-dead gorgeous. I've paid between $2,000 and $3,000 for the three Super Recordings that I've owned. I'm not going to play cat and mouse, but am stating right up front that I won't take less than $2,600 for the horn, at least until I've given it a good, long time to sell. I know these horns have been coming up for sale more often lately than in the past, but if you really want one, and want a REALLY GOOD ONE, you might want to grab this one now. I have a 100% feedback rating and stand solidly behind every word I've written about this horn. It comes with a shabby Olds case, probably not the original, but one like the horn would have come in, from about the same time, the sort of oval shaped one. I prefer payment by Paypal.
