For a brand new bow, you need to apply rosin (supplied) to the bow hair by running the block of rosin along the entire length of the bow hair. A new bow will require more rosin the first time to break in or will slip on the strings in case of inadequate rosin. Lessons are highly recommended, so please find a violin teacher.
