If the song is in the key of G but seems to have a darker bluesy sound(lowered 3rd and 7th) then G minor 7 will fit better.  This methodology allows the musician to use the S.P.I.T. page during times where the melody has a whole or half rest or long tones such as whole notes or half notes. The advanced musician can remove the pages to work on various progressions such as the ii V7 I to the very challenging "Coltrane" progression a.k.a. the augmented progression.
