Description
The S.P.I.T Book is a reference book for the seasoned musician and a study guide for the beginner to learn the basic tools necessary for improvisation.  The first 48 chords: Major 7, Dominant 7, Minor 7 and Half Diminished are addressed. Each of the 48 chords are divided into 4 parts:  The Scale that relates to the chord The Pattern that relates to the chord The Inversion that relates to the chord and  The Triad that relates to the scale. In total there are 192 sections to be learned or referenced. Though not necessary, You will find that learning the S.P.I.T Book fun to since it can be used in conjunction with many of the high quality play alongs found on the market today. The S.P.I.T book will also be helpful for those who wish to practice a seldom used key (for example F#) to get the technique under their fingers. The S.P.I.T Book works with any music that requires improvisation from jazz to bluegrass. The S.P.I.T. Book is constructed for extensive use. The removable pages are encased in high quality plastic sheet protectors and held together with the durable presentation three ring binder. The S.P.I.T. Book weighs over two pounds and is built to last and designed for easy use! The removable pages allow the beginning musician to place a S.P.I.T. page that matches the Key signature of a simple song on the same music stand as the song. If the song is in the Key of G and seems to have an upbeat and happy sound then the G Major 7 SPIT page would be used. If the song is in the key of G but seems to have a darker bluesy sound(lowered 3rd and 7th) then G minor 7 will fit better.  This methodology allows the musician to use the S.P.I.T. page during times where the melody has a whole or half rest or long tones such as whole notes or half notes. The advanced musician can remove the pages to work on various progressions such as the ii V7 I to the very challenging "Coltrane" progression a.k.a. the augmented progression. Any progression that involves the chord types listed above can be arranged in all twelve keys. You will find the S.P.I.T. Book(copyright 2006) one of the most fundimentally important books about music you'll own. "Think about it", a book that takes the mystery out of improvisation and constructed to endure extensive use.
