Description              Description This particular Martin has appeared in several books. Among them the Complete guitarist by  Richard Chapman. (the book is part of the sale) The 2-17 is one of  the first guitars to capture both the European and the American style of guitar making. This model has a Brazilian rosewood body, with Cross braced top(not X-brace) that Martin developed around 1850. The black painted Cedar neck has a cone shaped heel and a 18 fret brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The Original bridge is made of ebony and is pyramid shaped.  The original bone saddle is still in the original bridge. The strings are held by ebony pins. The rosette is green/white and Herringbone motif. Tuners and tunerbuttons are original and show the original ivory buttons.  The back has no binding. The guitar is in VG condition but has several top crack repairs. Bridge, tunerbuttons and saddle need repair or replacement. The guitar is very well playable and shows almost no belly. The back and sides are in excellent condition, and show no cracks only wear on the original finish. the neck is straight and the action is excellent. The neck is in excellent condition with original finish. We believe this guitar to be pre-1870s as post 1870 have a rope purfling-rosette and this shows a Herringbone purfling rosette.    This particular guitar is featured in many books and is a fine example of Martins Craftmanship. It needs some work but is overall in Good condition. Every crack on top is repaired and back/sides/neck are excellent codition. It will travel in a non original case.  CF Martin only produced some 8000 guitars between 1833 and 1898 when they started serializing guitars.. (with no# 8000) That means Martin only produced some 123 guitars each year..! These days the Martin Company is doing 100000+ ! That makes these little guitars worth while considering...
