Description
Maurice Strakosch. “Musical Rockets.” Sheet music for piano. Beautiful front page. The front page of this sheet music printed in New York is a painting of rockets exploding over classical architecture in a park setting and is suitable for framing. In fine print under the cover picture, "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1853, by William Hall & Son in the Clerks Office of the District Court in the Southern District of New York." Maurice Strakosch, musician, born in Moravia, 15 January, 1825; died in Paris, France, 9 October, 1887. His father removed to Germany in 1828 and young Strakosch there began the study of music. He was a pianist, composer, conductor, and opera impresario. He composed ballads, waltzes, polkas, and mazurkas. His compositions for the piano were at one time very popular. He also gained a reputation as an excellent pianist, and was well received in all the European countries in which he travelled. In 1848 he came to the United States and devoted himself to managing operatic troupes, organizing his first company in 1855. He wrote a small volume, "Souvenirs," in French not long before his death.
