MALAPANIS CONCERT CLASSICAL GUITAR REVIEWS The quality of the Malapanis guitars have captured the attention of some of the finest classical guitarists of our century. The king of classical guitarists, Sir ANGEL ROMERO, has been enthusiastically concertizing with a Malapanis guitar since 2002. Concerning a Malapanis cedar-top model, Romero affirms that "Tom is a maker of extreme and rare quality; He really is very innovative, and the instruments he produces -- like the one I have -- well, there's not another instrument that could push it to the side in the concert hall." These pictures of ROMERO and the Malapanis guitar are just a summary snapshot of the exposure these guitars have had in the concert halls of the world during the past several years. This particular guitar (part of the same generation of guitars as Angel Romero's) is a superb instrument, an instrument of the finest craftsmanship and of the highest sonor quality. SOUND SAMPLES For a glimpse of the acoustical capacity of the Malapanis guitars, please listen to some sound files recorded with a cedar-top Malapanis Guitar. In fact, all these songs have also been recorded by Christopher Parkening with Andres Segovia's own Ramirez guitar on the album entitled "A Tribute to Segovia." If you have the chance, listen to the two recordings side by side and decide for yourself which guitar sounds better. I believe the Malapanis guitar has much more power and a wider dynamic range than the Ramirez played by Parkening. To get that kind of a sound in any guitar is a great accomplishment. The guitar has been consistently played and is beautifully opened providing a very mature sound. The guitar is in EXCELLENT CONDITION without any structural issues whatsoever! The guitar has a couple of minor scratches under the high e-string which did not show on in the pictures. MORE SOUND CLIPS AND HI. RES. PICTURES available upon request! The guitar sold is Malapanis' 10th guitar (collector's treasure) and is a 650 mm (standard size for classical guitarists), cedar-top instrument (check out the beautiful tight-grained cedar), Cocobolo rosewood back and sides, with a warm, dark, lush, and extremely lyrical sound. The entire guitar is french-polished unlike most of the other guitars, which only have a top french polish. The french polish allows the guitar to "breathe" more and causes the wood to resonate much better without having any obstructions (lacquer). The guitar has great intonation especially when played in the 12th to 15th frets (the most challenging portion of the guitar to keep in tune). The basses are powerful and when playing the guitar you can feel your ribcage resonating with it. The trebles, well, what can I say about the trebles other than they are the best part of the guitar? They resemble the dark singing tone of a 1963 Ramirez guitar. They have great sustain and are in perfect balance with the bass strings. Whether you are an already accomplished guitarist (like Angel Romero), an aspiring classical guitarist, or, an enthusiastic fan of the classical guitar world, and, if you have an eye for detail and quality, then, this could be the right guitar for you. The value and quality of these instruments is unsurpassed today! Without trying to overstate the quallity of these instruments, I invite you to play a Malapanis next to your finest Fleta and Ramirez. You will be amazed and pleasantly surprised!
