Description
This auction is for a 1986, Martin Brazil HD-28 guitar, serial number 464062. I purchased the guitar in 1986 and have been the sole owner. I own several guitars and have been lucky enough to keep this one in prestine condition. I store the guitar in its hard case in 45% humidity. I keep the strings slack, therefore the neck has never needed to be reset and the gap between low E and the 12th fret remains less than 3/16". Other than a few blemishes in the gloss finish, the guitar is in new condition. The original case shown is included in this auction. I've had Gruhn Guitars do appraisals of this guitar over the years. The latest appraisal was done this week and I'm including their description and value below. I've tried to show all aspects of the guitar in the photos and it will be no problem at all to send more to serious buyers if necessary. The guitar conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period with dreadnought size body, Sitka spruce top with scalloped bracing and herringbone trim, Brazilian rosewood back, sides, and peghead veneer, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard with dot inlays, ebony bridge, and clear lacquer finish. This model was made as a limited edition instrument. Brazilian rosewood was not routinely used by Martin after late 1969 at which time Indian rosewood was substituted for Brazilian and only very small numbers of limited edition Brazilian rosewood guitars were produced. Brazilian rosewood is now on Appendix I of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) treaty. Importation of this wood is no longer legal and guitars made with this material are greatly sought by collectors as well as musicians. According to the owner this instrument has a few small nicks on the lower left side of the top which are not through the finish. The instrument is said otherwise to be in nearly new condition. Current market value: $7,000 (seven thousand dollars) I will pay for and determine best shipping and insurance within the US only.
