Description
NEW LOWER MIN BID ! UP for auction is one 1974 Gibson Byrdland left handed , lefty , LH . Serial number 3270xx . I dated this guitar using Guitar Identification by A.R. Duchhssoir. Additionally , The Gibson Shipment totals for 1974 ( Meiners ) shows 6 Natural Byrdlands my guess would be one of them left handed . This is it . Basic Facts from Gibson : 1974 Gibson Byrdland Hollowbody Electric GuitarRARE natural finishVenetian Cutawayw/OHSC Body:Top wood: Solid (carved) spruce topBack wood: Figured maple Dimensions: 17" (W) X 21" (L) X 2 1/4" (D)Binding: Multi-ply white/black on top, back, and f-holes Neck:Neck construction: figured mapleFingerboard wood: 22 fret ebonyInlays: Pearl blockBinding: Multi-ply white/blackScale length/Nut width: 23 1/2"; 1 11/16" Electronics & Hardware:Controls: 2 volume, 2 tone, 3-way switchPickups: Gibson humbuckersHardware color: GoldBridge/Tailpiece: ABR-1 with inlaid base/Byrdland loopTuner style: Schaller Step keystone gold History of Guitar : I am , I believe , the second owner of this Byrdland . The original owner sold it to me after it had been stored for decades. When I got the guitar there was little to no frets left and the pick guard chemically self destructed from lack of air . The pick up covers and the tune o matic pitted , the tail piece rusted . I brought this guitar and 600 dollar to a high end luthier in Northampton MA , Harry Becker and he transformed the guitar into a remarkable beauty . Harry installed new LARGE frets, replaced the two pick up covers , changed out the tail piece with an exact match same year near perfect condition , cleaned and polished the guitar to amazing form . I would rate this one 9 out of 10 for its's age . The neck is straight as an arrow and the fret job perfect. The finish has a beautiful french polish shine with little to no dings and dents. There is slight buckle rash on the back none to though the finish . There is ' antiquing' on the face of the guitar from age making it quite vintage and distinguished . The Byrd has the original pick ups and a new wire harness. The original wire harness will be included but the pots turn the ' righty' ( wrong ) way . The new harness has tapered 500 K even sweeping pots and tone controls that are not like on off switches . Also included will be a custom made ebony pick guard not currently installed on the guitar . Yes , the neck has the typical 70s ' valute ' . There are no serious repairs to report and there is not any headstock or neck issues. Sorry folks but years of silly questions e baying . Currently there is a carved ebony bridge Harry made for the guitar and the intonation is excelent , the sound so much superior to a tune o matic. The custom saddle is mounted on the original tune o base and the original tune o matic will be included in the case along with the wire harness , plus the broken original pick guard. The volume and tone control knobs are originals , three way switch tip , tuners , three way gromet , strap buttons as well as the case is 100% original . The handle of the case has been replaced otherwise in excelent shape for the age and 100% functioning less the thumb push on the primary lock . See pics . All original parts will be included in the case . So , overall this is one solid 70s example of Gibson's finest carved archtop . The sound is rich and full , the action amazing and fast , the sound remarkable . How many left handed vintage Byrdlands are out there ? 3 that I know of pre 1990 . One a 66 in blond the other a 60s TOB burst . Dont let this one pass. e mail me for more info or pics . Check the feedback ..100% . I take e bay seriously ! Lefty_billO Bank Wire only on this guitar .. NO PAYPAL no Bank or personal checks . Sorry . Payment due 48 hours after end of auction .
