Description
Rare Leedy marimba with polished brass resonators, brass plated frame, and original finish on bars. Outstanding example of one of the more portable yet big sounding instruments from early 1920's-30's . Leedy keyboards are known for having clear overtones, and no unwanted tones even throut the problem range in the 2nd octave up on some vintage marimbas. This keyboard is in excellent shape and needs only a fine tuning, along with perhaps 2 resonators to be tuned as well to blend the response. The finish is worn on the bars in the 'play' spots, and if I was to keep this marimba, I'd have John Salazar do a simple refinish - more like a deep cleaning and minimal refinish; at the time of a fine tuning. SalazarFineTuning.com. The frame unfolds from two bundles/ two pieces, with one crossbar to span the center [ this crossbar and the wheels are the only non original parts]. The bar rails are as boxes, high and low for natural and accidental rows, these attach together and set into place quickly. Then the resonators set together and into place. The whole thing packs into basically two cases [ I think one more case is needed] and two bar cases shrink wrapped or strapped together for shipping. Cases shown in the background of pictures..... You'll perhaps look long to find another Leedy wide bar in such excellent bright sound and brass full appearance.
