This prototype instrument incorporates a design innovation where the neck thru is actually tapered and lock-fitted to the solid Maple Burl top and back wings. This means that this instrument "breathes" as one-piece of wood. Thus, the instrument is not as sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations as other neck thru designs! This design innovation also unifies the neck/body in such a way as to maximize resonant mass, stability, and sustain. This particular bass has a fatter "C" neck profile more suited to players with larger hands. Disclosures As a prototype, this particular bass has some minor blems (several small worm channels along the edge of the burl) in the burl top that were intentionally left in place without epoxy filling. (See picture #3.) This approach was chosen in order to preserve the original natural beauty of the burlwood since epoxy fillers tend to discolor the areas that they fill.
