Description
Premium old-growth Brazilian Rosewood combined with ultra-rare Bearclaw German Spruce for the ultimate tonal combination. The markings and patterns you see on the top in the pictures are the bearclaw patterns and medullary rays in the wood itself, not flaws of any kind. This is the kind of straighter grain chocolate brown Brazilian (looks redder in the pictures) that was the choice for pre-war Martin's and is both better sounding and more difficult to obtain than the more swirling variety more commonly used these days. David built this beautiful piece in 2001 in his Connecticut shop. I purchased it from Brian at AcousticMusic.org in 2002, and the last time I saw him (a couple of months ago) he told me it is the one guitar he wishes he never sold. He has pictures of both Richard Thompson and Tony McManus playing this instrument. It is in excellent condition and the action and intonation are perfect on every fret, something rarely found in a wooden instrument. The scale is 25.4 inches and the nut-width is 1.75 inches. The model is LGC-60 which is David's Large Grand Concert. The K&K pickup was installed by George Youngblood, an incredible luthier in his own right, and is perfectly set up - you'd be surprised to find out how many installers never quite hit the sweet spot with these incredible systems. It is the finest guitar I've ever owned or played, but I must raise funds for personal reasons. Every once in a while I'll take it down to Mandolin Brothers and compare it to everything thay have at this price or above - no limit - just to check out the state of the art. I've not yet seen anything that matches its gorgeous tone and amazing playability. Stan (at M-Brothers) is not a Flammang dealer, but he's had a few come through his shop and he told me that they represent the highest level of workmanship he's seen.
