Description
Fender Tweed Tremolux 1955 Serial number 00201, 5E9 circuit Original footswitch included. Holy cow, what a killer sounding amp! Runs quietly and very strong. The tremolo sounds and works great too. This one has been serviced, it runs perfectly and would serve you well for years. A great studio/recording amp that will also do smaller gigs without a mic. Also a great harmonica amp... As you can see the amp has new filter caps, a change that absolutely should be performed on every amp that is over 25 years old in order to protect the power transformer from AC leakage. Other internal caps were also changed - this amp is full of Jensen foil caps that look cool and must be a factor in the amazing tone of this little beast! The tube chart bears the stamp EF, dating the amp to June of 1955. The speaker is a Jensen P12Q with a code stamp of 220711 from 1957 with its original cone intact. The power transformer is original, the output transformer is changed with a high quality replacement - see details below. The tweed is original, worn enough to look cool but not falling off, repainted or otherwise messed up like other 50's Fenders I've seen. The grillcloth is original as well and so are the back panels. The handle is changed. AS THIS ITEM IS BEING SHIPPED FOR FREE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, I would appreciate it if the winner would give me a 5 star rating for shipping and handling charges. I will use USPS Priority Mail for international shipments and UPS for domestic shipments. Here is the description sent to me by the former owner of the amp. He traded it to me towards a nice 1964 Twin Reverb. 1955 Tremolux 5E9 Description (Revised 8/28/08) This is a rare 1955 Fender model 5E9 Tremolux amp, serial number 00201, tube chart date code EE or EF, (May or June 1955). This amp shares the same size cabinet as the narrow-panel tweed Deluxe, and the 6V6 power tubes are cathode-biased like the Deluxe. By the end of ‘55, the Tremolux amps shared the larger cabinet size of the narrow-panel tweed Pro, and the power tubes were fixed-bias, making the “small box”, cathode-biased Tremolux amps very rare. This Tremolux amp sounds very close to my ‘59 tweed Deluxe. I also like the response and sound of the P12Q speaker in the Tremolux vs the P12R in the Deluxe, and then there’s the “tremolo”, Fender’s first amp with this feature. Cosmetically, the original tweed is well-worn with wood showing through on the corners, but the original grill cloth has no rips or punctures. The chrome on the chassis has some oxidation, but the silk-screened lettering is very nice and 99% all there, and the control knobs and pots are all original. A piece of masking tape is still inside the chassis and signed by “Lupe” who apparently did the original wiring at Fender in 1955. When I got this amp several years ago it had been electronically serviced (recapped), and had an output tranny from the mid-1960's (with end bells). The power tranny is the original 8160 Triad. It has been electronically restored by Mike Clark of Clark Amplification, and now has one of his custom-wound, interleaved OT’s, and Jensen Copper Foil Paper In Oil, and Sprague Atom caps. Resistors are Allen-Bradleys, and the power switch is the original Carling. A very nice 14' Volex (brand) grounded power cable has replaced the cheap non-original 3-prong cord that was in it. The tubes are a matched pair of new EH 6V6's, Groove Tubes in the pre-amp, and a USA ? 5U4 GB Rectifier. The original wooden wedge footswitch is included. The “refrigerator button” on/off switch appears to have been replaced, and the original green rubber is missing from the bottom, and it works perfectly. You can also turn the tremolo on and off with the “Depth” control knob. I have replaced the original (reconed) P12Q with a very nice original-cone Jensen P12Q with date code 220711. Since the electronic restoration, it has only been used on several recording sessions, and no gigs. It is ready to play and enjoy. About me and my policies: Recently several auctions have ended with the bidder not paying for the item. Please do not bid if you have doubt that you will pay for my item, it's a big waste of time. If you are selling something on Ebay and are depending on another buyer to pay you so you can pay me PLEASE DON'T BID unless you have the money to cover this item! It's amazing to me how many times this has happened lately! For more pictures that you can click on for greater detail see my website by clicking 'About Me' above.
