It was made in 1991-1992. I think I am the second owner because when I bought it in 1998, it looked almost brand new. It seemed like the previous owner bought it but didn't get into playing it so much before selling it. I have not put any new parts on it. It recently had a tune up done and it plays very well as it always has. Fretboard is not worn out much at all except the spot on the 7th fret on an A string. It slightly has been more worn out than the rest of the fingerboard, and it was already like that when I bought it. I really don't think I've worn out the fingerboard at all. This is my first fretless I've owned and I've played it a lot for 10 years but I have not noticed any difference in the sound from the slight visual wear on the fingerboard. The only cosmetic damages are the few scratches on the left side of the back. The electronics work fine. The pickups are great and have a very balanced tone. The quality of Fender Japan has been getting more and more attention recently. And, this bass definitely proves it, too. When played without an amp, you can hear the superior sound of the wood. Harmonics ring out loud and clear and have a long sustain. The tone is very balanced from low to high. And, when plugged, the same, big sound gets amplified. It sings very nicely. Ever since I owned this bass, whenever I play most new US Fender or Mexican Fender, I get disappointed. The only Fender products that can compared to Fender Japan seem to be US Fender from the '50's-'60's, the ones that Fender Japan use as their models.
