Description
Like New F E Olds L15SILVER PLATEDEngraved "U.S." MilitarySPECIAL Tenor TromboneGorgeousAnother Exceptionally BEAUTIFUL Special!Mouthpiece Includedplus NEW CASEThis is a Subfamchicago high quality auction. This is a mint fully refurbished L15 Special Trombone. It has been restored to its original state by expert craftsmen and technicians. No detail has been overlooked. Most importantly, it is not to be confused with the usual worn used horn typically found on eBay. This horn is in a class of its own, and all things considered, should be seen as an almost new item. You won't find an F E Olds Special like this one any time soon! This is indeed an incredible horn. It is composed of rare high quality alloy, for which this model is famous, and we have taken every effort to completely restore this model. Indeed, it has new inner tubes, new outer tubes, new water key, new slide bumpers and new lead pipe. It is utterly absent of negative marks of any kind. It is simply a horn that is a true find. This is an investment quality instrument for the true musician that is a joy to play. The L-15 is one of the sturdiest tenor trombones that F.E. Olds, known for master craftsmanship, ever made. It is pitched in B-flat, and is in immaculate condition, as I have said. The horn has been completely gone over and is in what we know to be its original factory specifications. It has also been sterilized. From the rubber bumper at the end of the slide, to the graceful flare of its bell, all has been scrutinized. All valves, springs and moving parts have been replaced and are in superb working order. Its tuning slide works without hesitation. There are no creases at the seams. It has no dents, no oops or owies! No wear or loss of plating, not a mark on the newly plated sleeves. Not even a scratch. The lacquer is 100%.The horn is circa 1949, serial number 339XX. It was manufactured at the Los Angeles, California Olds plant. The entire bell is silver plated. The bell is 7.5" wide, and is dual bore, .485/.500. The tuning slide crook moves effortlessly and is absolutley free of any corrosion. It has new inners, and new outers, a new lead pipe and a new water key. We made sure the braces and ferrules were in good condition. We also had it newly silver plated. We share this in the interest of full disclosure, so that the potential buyer realizes the quality that he or she is getting. This is a magnificent instrument that looks and plays like a dream! The slide is very fast, with excellent compression and allows the player to achieve remarkable slide vibrato with simple ease. This slide not only drops under its own weight but passes the two thumb compression test. The range of the horn is also remarkable. It handles both low and high tones very well. It is an excellent horn for orchestra, symphonic band, jazz or small combo work. The slides are round. The slide action is very good and in fact is one of the fastest I have seen. The outer tube falls under its own weight when held at a slight angle. It has very good compression. The outer slides are all golden brass with Chrome plated nickel silver inner slides. This horn also has a vintage and distinctive Olds counterweight. We have recently replaced the original open silver counterweight with a vintage silver plated full logo counterweight. The logo cover is removable to reach the attachment screws underneath. In addition, the wonderful deco Olds engraving is lovely. This horn is made even more special by the additional original engraving of "US" at the base of the bell. This was common in horns used by the military. This is a very solid and one of the most beautiful Specials I have ever seen. The look of this horn is unusual and very striking. The Olds Special, introduced after World War II was derived from the Military Model and stands between the Standard Military and the Super. Although the horn was introduced and has been purchased as an intermediate horn it is none the less considered an important Jazz horn. The Special Trombone is designed for maximum comfort over long hours of use. In fact, as I have said, many professional trombone players prefer it to much more expensive and heavier models. The light strong tubular braces are accurately spaced to fit the hand. The size and conical proportions are planned for brilliant trombone quality in both high and low registers, and for tremendous tone power. The horn is very light in weight which is good for young players and equally for Jazz musicians. You can play this horn a long time without getting tired, and without blowing it out. The horn comes with a free (sterilized) newly re-furbished like-new rare vintage Olds 3 mouthpiece which retails for about $50. It is being auctioned with a free, brand new, unmarked (no logo) Holton case, complete with keys, with a retail value of almost $200. If you care about quality, and don't want junk or somebody else's worn out instrument, then this is the horn for you.Subfamchicago is committed to offering the highest quality previously owned horns on the market, and we are now the largest dealer of restored Olds Trombones on eBay.
