SUPER RARE & NEAR PERFECTLos Angeles Made BRIGHT GOLDEN TONE RINGF E Olds S 15 Super Tenor Trombone24K Gold Plated Mouthpiece and New Case IncludedFree Shipping when you use the Buy It Now!This is another Subfamchicago High Quality AuctionDear Bidders:You should consider this an almost new horn in a brand new case.  It has no wear and shows few indications of even ever having been played.  This is a superior condition fully refurbished S15 Super Tenor Trombone with fluted tubes and a rare gold tone ring.  A special order feature with the Olds Super, this is a  rare and hard to find item! The rare golden tone ring makes this horn a very special Super.  It was manufactured in 1946 at the Los Angeles, California Olds factory.  Because this horn was lovingly taken care of by a professional musician it was easy to return the horn to a state that is as like new as possible.  We replaced the water key, the springs and cork and the rubber bumpers.  Once these corrections were made the horn was wonderful.  Of course it has been cleaned and polished as well as sterilized. It is very difficult to tell the difference between it in its present condition and what it must have looked like when the horn came out of production in 1946. Every once in a while, we here at Subfamchicago, come across a horn that is truly astonishing, so astonishing in fact that, to use the cliche, "it will knock your socks off."  This Super is just such a horn.  I have combed this instrument in sunlight and shadows and can find nothing wrong with it.  It is as perfect as the day it was made.  This is truly an investment quality horn that is well worth the price. The S-15 Super is one of the finest tenor trombones that F.E. Olds, known for master craftsmanship, ever made.  This horn is one of the most popular trombones ever made.  It is pitched in B-flat and is in immaculate like-new condition.  The horn has been completely gone over and is in what we believe to be its original factory specifications.  It has also been sterilized. All work is fresh, having been completed in the last 30 days.  From the rubber tip at the end of the slide, to the graceful flare of its rose brass  bell, all has been scrutinized.  All valves, springs and moving parts are in superb working order.  Both tuning and playing slides work without hesitation.  There are no creases at the seams. It has no dents.  There is no wear or loss of plating, not a mark on the sleeves. Not even a scratch. The rose brass and nickel silver are 100%.The horn is circa 1946 (serial#204XX), matching on slide and bell). The bell is rose brass and nickel silver, 7.25" wide,  and is dual bore, .485/.500.  The tuning slide crook moves effortlessly.  The slide is very fast with excellent compression and allows the player to achieve remarkable slide vibrato with simple ease. In addition, the slide is very light in weight.  The range of the horn is also remarkable. It handles both low and high tones very well and is one of the most responsive instruments we have seen.  It is an excellent horn for orchestra, symphonic band, jazz or small combo work, and of course it is great for solo performance. The slides are fluted, rather than round. Fluted tubes are important because they allow the outer slide to move along the delicate grooves of the inner slide, thus reducing friction and increasing slide speed.  The slide action is very good.  The slide action is very good.  The outer tube falls under its own weight when held at a slight angle.  It has very good compression.  The horn has a very bright yet full sound that results in a "dark sound" normally associated with heavy bells, without the corresponding weight.  It has a  nickel silver tuning slide and bell with a nickel silver crook. The outer slides are also nickel silver with chrome plated nickel silver inner slides.  The crook and tuning slide are both nickel silver.  Of course, it has the VERY  distinctive gold tone ring around the bell and is hand inscribed.  This is a top-notch professional instrument and truly and investment quality horn. I have played Olds trombones since the middle '50s, all through grade school, high-school, as a college music major and as a professional musician in bands, orchestras and jazz groups.  I have played Olds trombones all the way to a Ph.D.  This horn is one of the best and most beautiful I have ever encountered.   It is a 9.9 on a scale of 10!  As I have said, it is almost perfect. The horn comes with one FREE refinished 24K Gold Plated (sterilized) like-new and replated King 6.5 AL mouthpiece which retails for about $80.   Incredibly, the horn is being auctioned with a FREE brand-new, never used Conn black trombone case large enough for accessories as well as the trombone itself. The case is one of the finest on the market and is valued around $150. It comes with a set of keys.As the legendary trombonist and teacher Andrew Kerensky points out, the Super made its debut in the early 1930s.  It is a horn the reflects the glitter and flash of the Jazz age and is consequently a horn known for its command of the Jazz idiom.  The horn is enormously responsive says Kerensky, the material of the bell and the tone ring giving it a very dark centered tone.  When pushed to its maximum, the tone becomes bright but does not distort.  The horn is a showpiece.  It produces a powerful bass and clear soaring highs.  It is possibly the most versatile trombone ever produced.  It is relatively lightweight, is very clear in the high registers and has a deep Jazz like voice in the low ranges.  It has a relatively small bore but nonetheless is equal to if not better than the King 3B, the Conn 44H, the time proven standard and even the Olds Recording.  It is an exhilarating horn to play.  The Super will walk all over most anything coming out of bone factories today, including Yamaha, Getzen, Schilke, Martin, Holton and even the Bach Stradivarius.  And one other important point:  The hand grips and slide are relatively small, unlike many trombones made today.  This means that if you are a young player such as a student or a young adult, you will find this horn comfortable to hold, say for long periods of time, especially if you are standing or must walk in a marching band. The same holds true if you have small hands. I hope that you are as excited about obtaining this horn as I am in offering it.  If you care about quality, and don't want junk or somebody else's worn out instrument, then this is the horn for you."It's absolutely true.
