Description
MOS6581 SID------The heart of the SidStation is the sound generating chip from the classic home computer Commodore 64. This sound-chip, the MOS6581 SID (SID for Sound Interface Device) was developed in the early eighties by Bob Yannes at MOS technology. It's a very unique-sounding marriage of analogue and digital techniques. However, the trend in sound synthesis soon changed towards sampling technology, and nothing like it has been produced ever since. The rediscovery of the SID-sound is a pleasant surprise for all sound explorers looking for something more exiting than the current crop of analogue imitating 'virtual' synthesizers.Availability------The possible production of SidStation synthesizers is limited. Production of SID-chips has stopped since long, and we have searched all over the world for remaining stock. We will stop the production of SidStation as the stock we've managed to secure is at an end. The price of the SidStation will also be increased as the stock dries out. If you want to be in possession of a SidStation - don't wait. What am I bidding on?You are bidding on a used Elektron Sidstation in near mint condition, which comes with a free Behringer Composer Pro compressor.  Both pieces of equipment are in near mint condition having never been gigged and having only been limitedly used in a smoke-free climate controlled studio.  Both pieces of equipment come with their respective 110v power supplies (DO NOT bid on a Sidstation if it doesn't mention a power supply since the 110v supply is IMPOSSIBLE to find in the United States).  I am including a CD with the patches and manual for the Sidstation and Compressor Pro.The SID is my favorite synth of all the equipment I own, but law school is expensive and I need to buy a new laptop.  It is truly breaking my heart to be selling it!  I realize that (1) I may never be able to find another Sidstation in the future and (2) the value of this synth is only going to appreciate and climb (e.g. I bought it for $700 5 years ago and I've seen them selling well used at around $1400 today). What is the Sidstations condition?Near Mint.  By that I mean it is in Mint cosmetic condition looking just like the day it left the factory with no blemishes, scratches, or case damage.  Internally, it is in Near Mint because I just recently had it serviced a week ago.  Sidstations sometimes left the factory with a loose DC adapter connection on the back.  I had the best synthesizer techs in Atlanta tighten up the connection so it does not wobble.  In my opinion this repair makes the synth BETTER than when I first purchased it.  Otherwise, the synth is in perfect working order.  I am confident you WILL NOT find a Sidstation in such a pristine condition as mine. Why are you including a Behringer Composer Pro?The SID chip is a unique and never to be reproduced synthesizer that is very very quirky.  When you turn on the Sidstation you will notice a lot of background static to your mixer or speakers.  Every Sidstation does this and its a natural result of sending an electric signal through the SID.  In fact, after playing a series of notes it will sometimes "ghost" weird notes or sounds in the background that are quieter.  This makes the Sidstation awesome for experimentation, ambient music, and for a warm analog feel.  However, if you are mixing the Sidstation or performing live you don't want this noise and these "ghost notes" to muddle the mix.  Ergo, you plug the Sidstation into the Behringer Composer Pro and use the limiter and gate to effectively cut-off the signal from the Sidstation when it drops below a certain db.  As a result you can play the funkiest bass line on earth and the signal is cut off the second you stop playing without the ghosts and static.  Rather than send you a Sidstation without this caveat and have you think the sucker is malfunctioning (which it most certainly is not), I'm throwing in the Composer Pro since I won't have a use for it and it really complements the Sidstation to work well in a studio. What are the terms of sale?I expect payment the same day you accept the 'buy it now' or I accept you best offer.  Payment will be in the form of paypal only.  Upon receipt of payment I will carefully package up the Sidstation and Composer Pro and ship both with the CD of patches, manual, and power supplies via USPS Priority Mail.  The package WILL be insured and there will be signature confirmation upon delivery.  I have fully tested the Sidstation and it is 100% operational as of boxing it up to go out.  No returns will be accepted.  Should it become damaged in transit please make the appropriate documentation so we may file an insurance claim.  Also, once you plug it in and use it I'd love to hear how you like it!!!
