This certificate, from CMS Roman Z. L. Storsch, is reprinted below. Storsch was a master luthier and an official appraiser of luthier products. He also restored this Derazey violin. "Violin made by Just A. Derazey, France 1859." "Instrument is originally made by Just Amadee Derazey (b. 6.28.1839-d. 1.22.1890) as reproduction of Caspar Dieffenburger. The beautiful carved head is portrait of C. Dieffenburger. Back from one piece of flame maple is double inlayed, with dancers and grape leafs carved. F-holes are carved on old Viola's style. Varnish yellow golden. Excellent technical and playing condition with very strong sonorous orchestra tone, Instrument was made in Mirecourt, France in 1859 and with burned initials J.D. is same Head. Value $7800." This appraisal was done 24 years ago in 1984. Once again, with the burned initials of J.D. some of you that have sent emails asking if it is truly a Derazey. it is. This violin has been meticulously documented and comes with a folder containing an ancient label, original official appraisal, pictures of the repairs done and copies of the repair documents.
