Description
This is a beautiful violin. It is in excellent condition. It is a rich chestnut color, it is very smooth, and beautiful. You can see 67 additional pictures of this beautiful instrument at www.myspace.com/maynardvintagelovers then click right below the picture on "view my pics". There is only one minor crack about 1 1/2 inches on the front right bottom next to the chin strap...it is minor. There are other small thin cracks which are much older and polished over and obviously have not effected the beauty of this instrument. Please see the above website for all views and pictures. This violin comes from an estate in Los Angeles, CA. The owner was a doctor, and a Captain in the Marine Cor. when he purchased it from someone else in Los Angeles (see label on box). This would have been during the time of WW1. This owner then kept the violin in its case inside this shipping box. Someone made a soft cloth cover embroidered with the Captain's initials to then protect the violin in its case. (See picture) Inside the case is a label stating the owner's address on Durant Ave., Berkeley, California. The second photo shows part of the wording inside the violin (This does not reveal the true color of the wood, you are seeing a reflection of the camera flash). The wording is not hand written and states: "Andreas Hoyer,Violinmacher in Klingenthal.17" The wording is in italics and on a parchment type paper label which has rounded corners and is secured inside onto the back of the violin. The violin measures apprx. 23 inches long. The widest part is 7 1/2 inches wide Above the bridge it is about 6 1/2 inches wide The body of the violin is 14 inches long The violin case handle on the case is broken (see picture). The 2 side latches say "Eaglelock Co. Terryville, Conn. USA The bow is beatiful piece of workmanship, but as shown in the pictures needs restringing. The bow has some inlade mother of pearl pieces for decoration: 1- where you hold it (a 1" x 1/4" piece)- this mother of pearl piece is intact but has 4 small edge chips. 2- a side round cover about the size of a pea (the other side round cover is missing) 3-the end of the bow also has another pea size mother of pearl cover. The violin includes original items including (See picture): A box of "DODSON'S FINE STUDENT VIOLIN ROSIN -Price 15 Cents- CALIFORNIA" The rosin is used, but the box is almost full. 2 - Sounding Posts A leather padded chin rest with the word "LEMEIR" leather embossed on it A curved metal piece (possibly to attach a chin rest?) Some strings, one marked: "NU-TONE MADE IN USA 140 CEST ITALIAN GUT =TESTED= A ALUMINUM WOUND A Tailpiece If you have any questions, please email. Thank you for looking and have a great day!
