Description
This 2002 Paulino Bernabe "Concierto" Model classical guitar was originally owned, played and recorded with by guitarist Andy Summers of The Police. The guitar had a cedar top with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Scale Length is 650mm and the Nut Width is 52mm. The guitar is excellent condition with only a few nail marks on the top (mostly in the playing position) and then one small scratch on the side which sits on your leg (photoed). The Concierto has a nice deep and rich Cedar sound with good warmth and roundness, but it also has a little Spanish bite to it which gives it great clarity. The guitar priced to sell on its on merits as a "Concierto" model with the provenance of Andy Summers simply adding to the story. The guitar includes a letter written and signed and dated 5-30-08 by Andy Summers which reads: "This is to certify that this Paulino Bernabe Concierto guitars was in my possession for several years. I have recorded several tracks with this instrument." You can also see the Bernabe listed in Andy Summers Guitar Collection Gallery 10 (in the middle) on his website: http://www.andysummers.com/photos-guitars.php More photos can be supplied per request and I'm happy to answer any questions regarding the instrument. Thanks,Ryan A little more on Paulino Bernabe: Paulino Bernabe (1932-2007) started out as a cabinet maker before first apprenticing at the Ramirez workshop (1954) and then eventually rising to foreman and principal craftsman of the Ramirez shop during the "Golden-Age" of Ramirez Guitars. In 1969 Paulino left Ramirez to build on his own where he continued to build wonderful traditional instruments while at the same time experimented and pushing the concepts of classical guitar construction. Paulino Bernabe passed away on May 10, 2007 in Madrid. There is a wonderful article written by guitarist, recording engineer and friend Norbert Kraft; of remembrance at the Guitar Foundation of America's website about Paulino Sr. and his work. http://www.guitarfoundation.org/drupal/paulino-bernabe-remembered A little more on classical side of Andy: Andy did four years of classical guitar studies at Cal State Northridge until 1973, before joining Mike Howellet, Sting and Stewart Copeland in Strontium 90 which then became The Police. He continues to play classical guitar (rather well!) even taking his wonderful little Abel Garcia to every stop on the 2007-2008 Police reunion tour. “Then ultimately I was in a band called The Police by which time I played a lot of classical guitar, studied classic music, played jazz, rock.” Andy Summers There was a period when I'd just come out of college where I'd been playing classical guitar and I suddenly realised that it wasn't what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.” Andy Summers (Quotes are from Brainy Quote at http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/a/andy_summers.html)
