You will be buying a unit that is ready to use in a professional enviroment without doing anything to it but plug it in.   Be aware that the 436A and 436B do not have release and threshold adjustments. This 436C has both as well as attack.   Unforunately there are many units out there that have been modified  and recapped without using the right types of caps and correct mods.   When done correctly recapping make these compressors sound great , warm, phat and  lots of character without the noise . We use NOS caps from the 1960's checked with a Sencor Z meter for proper values , leaks and ESR.   The adjustments on the front panel for Release and Threshold are normally screw driver adjustments , but the pots have been moved out through the front panel with knobs put on them so it becomes easy to adjust. This is the  the original 436C circuit.       The Altec 436C has  all original transformers, NOS tubes, percission stepped Alps volume control , release ,threshold controls and a adjustable attack that is also the on off  switch.       This Altec 436C sounds great and comes with a copy of the original manual and schematic. The are a few small scratches but for a 40+ year piece of equipment it is in very good condition cosmetically and great condition operationally.   A copy of the 5 pages of EMI Mods is included and the cap  and attack  changes have been made.    There are other changes that can be done but I have done what I feel is important and kept the unit mostly  original.  The buyer can decide if he wants to make other  changes.   I can add XLR's on pig tails to make it easy to hook up in the studio if requested.   This Altec 438C tube compressor is guaranteed to be in good working condition. click on photo to enlarge... click on photo to enlarge.        I will ship overseas ,  Bank Wire Transfers , Payment by  Certified Bank Check in US Funds sent by Express Mail Service (EMS)         View my store below or click on the icon above.
