The sound is produced by striking or bowing the bronze tone rods using a mallet or bow while moving the instrument. The mallet produces distinctive high-pitched sounds, while the bow produces violin harmonic-like and fluid-like undulating tones (a range of sound from a very 50's sci-fi to the sounds of whale calls).
